Everything you need to know about liposuction

Are you looking to have liposuction? Or a breast lift or tummy tuck? If you’re searching for a plastic surgeon, don’t hesitate to contact the Cleveland Plastic Surgery Institute. The clinic can provide treatments such as breast lift, laser Lipo, Liposuction, tummy tuck, Brazilian butt lift, and cosmetic surgery in Cleveland, OH.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a common cosmetic treatment which is used to remove excess body fat, that the patient is unhappy with. It involves creating a small incision from which the fat is sucked out. Liposuction is most commonly used in areas of the body where it’s hard to lose weight through diet and exercise alone.

Many people choose to have liposuction on areas where fat tends to build up. This includes the butt, hips, stomach, and thighs. A liposuction procedure aims to change the patient’s body shape. Results achieved with liposuction are usually long-lasting, as long as the patient lives a healthy lifestyle and maintains a healthy weight through diet and exercises.

Liposuction can be carried on for cosmetic reasons, but can also be used to treat several medical conditions. It can effectively be used to treat lymphoedema. A condition that causes the arms and legs to swell. It can also treat lipoedema, a disease that causes fat to build up in the butt, thighs, and legs.

What does Liposuction involve?

A liposuction operation will be carried out while the patient is under general anesthetic. In some cases, patients may be given an epidural anesthetic, this is particularly common for surgery on the lower parts of the body.

The surgeon will draw marks on your body with a pen, to show which area of fat needs to be removed. You’ll then receive an injection in this area. The injection will contain an anesthetic, as well as medications to reduce pain, limit blood loss, and reduce the likelihood of bruising and swelling

The surgeon will then use high-frequency vibrations to break up fat cells in your body. A laser pulse may also be used to attack the fat cells or a high-pressure water jet. The next step is to make a small cut on the body so that a suction tube can be inserted. This tube is attached to a vacuum machine, which will suck out the fat. The surgeon will need to make more than one cut in larger areas.

The suction tube will be moved back and forth while vacuuming, as this will help to loosen any fat that gets stuck and allow it to be sucked out. The surgeon will then drain off any excess fluid or blood before stitching up the area and applying a bandage. A liposuction operation will take between one to three hours. Most patients will spend the night in the hospital afterward.

After Care

You’ll need to wear an elasticated support corset after having liposuction on your stomach or body. If you’ve had the procedure on other areas such as the legs or arms, you’ll be given compression bandages. These will help to minimize swelling and bruising. They should be worn 24/7 for the first few weeks after having surgery.

You’ll likely have to take antibiotics after having liposuction, as this will help to eliminate the risk of infection. Most patients will also take pain medication for the first week to ease the pain and reduce inflammation.
